Ep. 32: Supercharge Your Work with a New AI
Deepak's newsletter episode 32
Happy Friday, everyone! 🪷
Do you ever have to read or understand documents, contracts, articles, or even books? Takes a ton of time, and usually wasted time because you can’t remember or act on much of it.
Google just released an INCREDIBLE AI that can do the hard work for you.
It’s free and here it is: NotebookLM
As you all know, I’m a big believer in building a 2nd brain—I learned about this tool from the guy who wrote the book on the topic, Thiago Forte.
The AI automatically creates summaries and insights from ALL of the sources you give it!
The problem with AIs like ChatGPT is that it’s already trained on sources. For example, if you ask ChatGPT to summarize a book, it does not pull that summary from the source (the book itself), it creates its summary from OTHER summaries, which is why they’re usually pretty bad.
Google’s NotebookLM allows YOU to feed it source information!
This type of AI is called Source Grounded AI and it can change the way students, professionals, and creatives work, freeing up our most valuable resource, time! ⌛️
Some use cases:
Organize your notes across platforms (random notes in your iPhone Notes app, Google Docs, Readwise notes).
Give the AI all of the books you’ve read in the past 10 years, and then ask it to pull the insights that overlap, contradict, etc. 🤯
Academic papers—feed the AI the source research, and ask it questions to get answers vs navigating the challenging language! Have conversations WITH the document!
Keep a personal journal? Feed the AI your journal, draw insights that could take you hours of re-reading.
Here are some current limitations that Google will certainly update/fix as this product gains traction.
-Inputs have to be PDFs or google docs (not URLs, or other sources).
-Limited to 20 sources at most.
-Can’t do math (yet)—imagine when the AI can do the statistical work in meta-analysis! 😭
Still, an outstanding tool that is capable of putting your productivity on another level. 📈
I’ll see you all next week, have a great weekend!
