Happy Friday, all! 🪷
It’s Friday, you haven’t completed your tasks for the week, your side-projects are all on the back burner, you’re tired and your friends and family will soak up your weekend.
What if there was a simple and efficient productivity hack that you could employ to avoid this fatigue, even guilt for not getting your tasks done?
Here it is!
Start with the end in mind —> create weekly goals —> set timers for work blocks & task-switching daily —> pat yourself on the back for getting sh*t done at the end of the week!
It’s a 2-fold system that I picked up and adapted from two (1, 2) great productivity YouTubers.
1. Determine your 3 big goals/domains of your life. For me, this would be something like A. medicine B. fitness, and C. Ehm Academy. Your domains are pertinent to your goals!
Next, set weekly (not daily!) goals for each of your main domains. For me, this would be something like: A. medicine: Do 50 board-style questions to alleviate some pressure during residency. B. fitness: do three strength workouts and two hours of cardio. C. Ehm Academy: Improve reporting systems for the teaching team. The point here is that I know I have the week to get all of this done, taking the pressure off of myself for not getting it all done daily.
MAKE time. Block out chunks of time to get these things done from most important to least. Set timers to task switch! For example, a timer that goes off at 9a: start 2-hour study block. Then another timer, say at 11:30, for a workout, etc, hitting each of my major domains. This could be all three domains if it’s a 'free’ day, or just one, or even none! The point is I am intentionally blocking out time to get sh*t done every week.
That’s it! I experimented with this approach for the last three weeks and I LOVE the approach. Specifically, I enjoy that during my set blocks of work, I throw my phone in another room, and place my desktop on DoNotDisturb. I treat these blocks super seriously, as respect for my time, and ultimately, myself.Try it out!
