Happy Friday, everyone! 🌻
This week, I wanted to dive into the world of coding and why we should all learn some of the basics (or at least get your kiddo’s to) 🚀
Check out the official Python Programming Language 🐍 :
10’ish years into today’s workforce, even in fields like medicine, computer skills are key.
Learning programming basics is a game-changer, enhancing problem-solving and critical thinking—essential for any student to begin learning ASAP.
Why? Because interacting with software is inevitable. Learning coding fundamentals isn't just for future programmers; it's about thinking better, seeing the world differently, and having the skills to create solutions.
I'm personally committed to learning to code—it's impacting my profession.
Exciting news: our Python for Beginners course, led by a brilliant Software Engineer, Natalie, starts January 2024. See the curriculum here:
Teaching for the last 10+ years has shown me that students struggle with organizational skills. Coding isn't just about computers; it builds essential life skills. Many progressive schools teach coding like English or Math. Online courses are great but require structure. Done intentionally, coding pays dividends over time!
Coding isn't accessible to everyone, but it's a way to enhance crucial life skills. Check out some incredible sub-skills refined through coding. 🌐💻
Although hard to measure as noted in this study, there are some strong upsides in learning how to code, beyond just the code!
Organizational Skills:
Coding teaches detailed attention and a structured approach. Your child learns to organize thoughts, break down problems, and implement solutions systematically—critical skills for academic success.
Resilience:
Coding involves trial and error, fostering resilience. Facing bugs and challenges, your child learns persistence, and understanding setbacks as opportunities to learn and grow.
Problem-Solving:
Coding is puzzle-solving. Your child develops a systematic approach, breaking down complex issues into manageable parts. This skill extends beyond programming, benefiting various disciplines.
Logical Thinking:
Coding instills inherent logic, applicable beyond programming. Understanding rules cultivates logical and sequential thinking, enhancing academic performance, especially in subjects like math and science.
Creativity:
Coding sparks creative problem-solving, influencing innovative thinking beyond programming. It nurtures a mindset that thrives on creativity and outside-the-box solutions. 🚀
That’s all this week!
I hope you all have a super rejuvenating weekend planned 🤓
I’ll see you next Friday! 🌻
